Woohoo! We're on pace for a 162-0 season! I love opening day! :-)

The good:

Xavier Fucking Nady. The guy everyone assumed was trade bait. 4-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Damn.

Paul Lo Duca. Who knew, part 2? 2-4, a double, and an rbi.

David Wright. Okay, who didn't know? 2-4, a homer, rbi, and run scored.

Tom Glavine. Great on the mound (6 IP, 1 ER, 5 Ks, initiated a double play), great at the plate (2-2 and moved a runner into scoring position).

Billy Wagner. Looper, he's not. One save down, many more (I hope) to go.

The not so good:

Everyone else, at the plate. The rest of the team was 0-21, with six strikeouts. Not so good for folks like Delgado and Reyes.

Heilman. You don't earn your way into the starting rotation by nearly blowing a save. Let's hope this was just opening-day jitters.

As I write this, the Braves are up 4-0 without having let the Dodgers bat yet, so I doubt the Mets will have sole possession of first, but 1-0 is as good as I could have hoped for.

Opening Day. It should be a national holiday.

"Opening Day. It should be a national holiday."

Durn Tootin!

Xavier Nady: a lucky pick for my Fantasy team (today at least)

Derek Lowe: an unlucky pick for my Fantasy team (Dodger Stadium depresses scoring, dammit! ;))

The Red Sox, although the game is not yet over, are on a similar pace. :)

Bwahaha! I just called my friend and fellow Mets fan Sean to say what I say every Opening Day, "We rule! If this trend continues, we won't lose a ballgame all year!" (Some years, I call him and say, "They suck. If this trend continues, they won't win a game all year.")

It bloodly well should be a national holiday. Gawds knows we have enough other screwy holidays.

I think the Mets have a good shot this year, but if Willie insists on batting Reyes first and inserting Kaz Matsui in the lineup, the Mets aren't going to have enough runs scored to win.

And I truly think that trading both Seo and Benson is going to seriously bite them on the ass.....

Only saw intermittent evidence of that yesterday. We shall see, but I think the Mets would be better off taking advantage of the hitter Reyes actually is instead of wishcasting him into a leadoff role he's likely not capable of filling. He's an ideal #6 hitter who can knock in Beltran and Wright when they get on base ahead of him instead of making outs at the top of the lineup and letting LoDuca and Delgado come up with nobody on base and an out or two.
