I take it the book is good? I never saw the movie, but some of the reviews I saw were repelled by the message that you need to have a makeover and be a rich princess to have a happy life. But maybe that misrepresents the material.

I was mixed on the movie -- it certainly didn't convey that message (in fact, she was pretty happy before and after the makeover), but it was still fluffy. Haven't read the novel itself, alas, so no real opinion on that one (although I haven't seen it take a lot of criticism).
