It's a very rare day that I deliberately buy a fullscreen DVD. But a trip to Walgreens this afternoon turned up a copy of Oblivion in their $5 bin. Oh, I was all over that one.

I still have Peter David's Starlog article about filming that flick. I liked that he said how George Takei was ad libbing Star Trek puns: "He could do this with impunity, of course, because the credit at the beginning reads 'Screenplay by Peter David.' It does not say 'Screenplay by Peter David (with Trek groaners by George Takei.)'"

Hee.

I don't think he used that in CBG; I do remember his columns on the earlier Romania experience on the Trancers sequels, some of which were reprinted in the But I Digress book. (I'm remembering both that Ron Perlman auditioned, and also, oh God, the bad stuff about the beggar kids who were intentionally crippled to look more pathetic and better for begging. That was when Ariel was really young, and so it hit PAD especially hard. I believe his words were "Dear God, get me out of here.")

(Sorry to be glum-y like that. I'm not exactly a ray of sunshine today.)

If you'd like to see it, I can dig out the Oblivion piece and see if it's copy-able. (It's a MUCH happier piece than the Trancers stuff I mentioned above...)

Weren't the Oblivion movies shot in fullscreen, though? So it's not like you're cheating or nuthin'.

Must get to Walgreens...
