Dumb TV silliness
May. 8th, 2006 10:47 amOkay, I know that Desperate Housewives isn't exactly brain-engaging television, but last night was a double-whammy of stupidity.
First, is there anything more cliched than the Susan plotline? Someone sends a snail-mail letter, then something else causes them to want to intercept it; non-hilarity follows. The only question here is whether the writers are morons, or if they just assume their viewers are.
That question was answered in the Lynette/Tom storyline. Not only does it look like they're bringing back the (justifiably) aborted "Tom has a second family" storyline, but Tom cashed in his tickets and left a fucking papertrail like that? No fucking way. Aside from the obvious issue (they work at the same company), there's also the fact that after cashing in the tickets, the papertrail wouldn't exit. Oh, and given how cash-strapped the company has been, why the hell is Tom (low man on the totem pole anyway) flying first class?
We'll ignore the stupidity of the Applewhites plotline, as it's been pretty low all year.
FWIW, I did enjoy the Bree and Gabrielle plotlines.
But the real problem was the same problem that plagued the show during the first month of the year: the show is about a group of friends, and if they don't interact at all (even Edie and Susan didn't have any scenes together this week), it's basically "MTV Undressed" for adults.
