Leaving Florida
Jun. 20th, 2006 04:25 pmWe're currently sitting at the gate in the Ft. Lauderdale airport, taking advantage of the free wi-fi (although with limited power connections, but I think I've got enough battery life to make it to boarding).
On the one hand, family visits (regardless of which side of the family we're dealing with) are incredibly stressful, so leaving will relieve a lot of that stress.
On the other hand, I miss my kid. This is the first father's day I've actually spent with her, and I want it to become a regular thing. She needs her trips to the grandparents during the summer -- both as something she loves, and as something that helps her grow. But I also miss her a hell of a lot when she's gone, and I have an admittedly selfish desire to not want to miss any moments of her growing up.
Over at Whatever, John Scalzi summed it up nicely: One of the things you know about fatherhood going in is that you're going to love your kid. That's a given. What's a bonus is when you genuinely like your kid, which is to say that your kid is a human being that you think is interesting and fun and someone you'd like to know both better and for a nice, long time.
Damned straight. I'm constantly amazed at just how absolutely nifty Elayna is.
We'll be back in Atlanta shortly. Hope everyone's been doing well.

Date: 2006-06-20 08:43 pm (UTC)Are you coming with 'Song to Philcon in November? Because we're inviting John Scalzi to come as well.
And if Elayna wants to come, we have a whole line of kid's programming.
Just sayin', is all.
