That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. :(

i'm sorry to see them go; saw them a bunch of times on the dig me out and all hands tours. it was amazing to see three girls who could kick ass on guitars and be compared to verlaine and lloyd.

that said: the woods didn't work (for me) and when i saw them open for wilco they did a fairly long jam session in their set that went from exhiliarating to boring. who knows? maybe they needed some time away from the band, and maybe they'll get back together and sound even better in a few years. stranger things have happened...hey, television reunited last year, right?

This may shed some light: This Portland Mercury article has some detail on how difficult an experience it was for Sleater-Kinney to record The Woods.

I'm hoping this is more a Tears For Fears-style breakup: at one point the guys in that band decided they could either be friends or musical partners, so for several years they were just friends before they reunited a few years ago. I saw them in concert! This made me happy.

And I've also seen Sleater-Kinney in concert (August 2001 in a mid-size venue), and THAT made me happy.

And Janet Weiss reminds me of my sister-in-law, in a good way. Simply put, I like this group, and I'm glad it's been around.

AND and I also like that their song "Modern Girl" is on the playlist for a kids-friendly music show in town called Greasy Kids' Stuff, music that kids and the parents who love them can enjoy equally. Have you gotten Elayna into S-K yet?
