On eating

A good meal, you see, is all about unexpected delight: it's one thing for food to simply "taste good," but a real master can make it taste good in a way that surprises you. And for that to work, you have to start from a place where you can permit yourself to be surprised. And, interestingly enough, the person eating has to cooperate for that to really be successful.
I'm a decent cook. I'm an outstanding eater.

Yes, I finished it. And yes, it kicks ass. Especially if you're a foodie.

It seems I failed in my mind control efforts. Curses.

Time to go into hiding. Donde esta el bano? Estoy el fugitivo!

I trust that, like all Vlad fans, you were thrown into Cheyne-Stokes breathing by that first chapter.

I've been looking into that series but I have no idea where to START. I see two different books cited as the start of the series (I assume one is choronological in the story, one is first-published)... is The Book of Jhereg the first ones to read?

And you want to read them in publication order, not "chronological" order.

Oh yeah. The latter is arguably impossible without switching between books in the middle of chapters anyway.

I don't know, I once tried rereading everything up to and including Issola in chronological order. It worked surprisingly well—I picked up things that I'd forgotten about by reading them in publication order. I'm glad that wasn't how I first read them, though.

Steve's such a nice guy... but his writing always makes me hungry.
I met him years ago when we both worked the Minn Ren Fest for a couple of the same years - fun to game with, great to hang out with, fun to go see perform musically - all around talented guy.

I suppose I ought to get around to reading that one...

But the closest thing he's ever written to autobiographical fiction is Cowboy Feng's... have you ever read it?

*whimper*

I am so deeply envious. Want book NOW! And will probably have to wait until the end of August for it to either make it out to Australia or for [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe to bring it back after his next trip.

Ah well, gives me time to reread them all!
