The next hit TV show to follow shows like Buffy, CSI, and Star Trek to the world of comics?

My Name is Earl.

Um. OK.

Because nothing says "comic-book potential" like a traditional actor-driven sitcom.

Okay. I'm not interested in the comic. But My Name is Earl is one of my guilty pleasures. I've never admitted to liking it in a public forum before.

Wrong.

Nothing says "comic-book potential" like "a hit show willing to license its characters to a comic book."

If they could have done it with "Friends," they would have.

Well, ok. Why couldn't they with "Friends"? Too many personalities involved?

The logic goes something like this:

"My Name Is Earl" = Jason Lee = various characters in Kevin Smith films = Kevin Smith = very late but profitable comic books = profitable comics!

There you have it. Unassailable. The flow chart does not lie.

So THAT'S what the "????" that comes before "PROFIT!" means!

Well My Name Is Earl is one of the most cartoonish live action sitcoms we've had in a while . . .

I can very easily picture Jason Lee as a comic book character. He has enough of a over-dramatic touch for that to work. (I've wanted to see him in one since Kevin Smith pondered doing that comic called Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall, which probably will never happen but which amuses me.)

Cool!!! I can't wait for the comic versions of "Yes, Dear" and "According to Jim."
