So, on waking up, I learned that the Mets had traded Keppinger for a Royals player named Ruben Gotay. Knowing nothing about him I figured I'd Google him, and hit upon this Wikipedia entry.

Needless to say, I've edited it to remove the last sentence. That racist claptrap came from IP 72.225.168.221 (no login, of course), which resolves to cpe-72-225-168-221.si.res.rr.com as a host name (in other words, some putz on his home broadband connection). No way to tell who the moron is, but it's an annoying way to start a Monday morning. I'll be keeping an eye on the entry to see if the asshole returns.

Oh, as far as the trade goes, I'm indifferent. Gotay doesn't look like anything special, but it's not like Kepp was contributing all that much.

Considering that I watch about a third of the games and I've never even heard of Keppinger, I'm going to agree - he can't have been contributing much.

GeoBytes (http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation&ipaddress=72.225.168.221) places the twit in Staten Island.

Go fig.

Yeah, but Geobytes places me in London, which is 100 miles away

the "si.res" in is dns entry says SI is likely.

But only 100 miles? I have a friend in Paris, when she uses a particular Internet Cafe, GeoBytes locates her in Reunion (city), Reunion (Island) off Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

Kind of far for a commute...

GeoBytes gets my work IP address right (gee, you think 18/8 is easy to figure out?), but puts my home address in Oklahoma City(!). My ISP is in Seattle, I'm in Cambridge...that's not even near the midpoint!

Unfortunately, there is a mindset here of local sports fans that feels this way. Especially now that Omar Minaya (latin himself) is GM.

It's POPPYCOCK!

But it's out there.

It's an excuse for people to hate Omar and the players.

Oh, and it goes back to the underlying resentment that some people of certain hues have with their sports becoming having fewer people like them.

However, what is interesting is that of the big three sports, baseball is probably the most white.
