Another nifty SDCC Announcement: DC and Warner are animating three classic DC storylines as straight-to-video movies: Superman/Doomsday (meh), The New Frontier (cool), and The New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract! Although Bruce Timm will be involved, all three are animated and adapted from the original graphic novels, with no connection to any of the current DC animated universes.

Assuming this is done well (and with Timm involved, I don't doubt it), that means we're going to have a faithful adaptation of The Judas Contract! Much as I enjoyed the Teen Titans animated series, there's a fundamental difference in tone between a Terra who gets corrupted by a bad guy, and a Terra who's born bad and manipulates everyone she knows. I'm also curious if they'll be as faithful as they claim -- a fourteen-year-old who smokes, sleeps with a fifty-year-old assassin, and (oh yeah) murders people isn't exactly going to please some folks.

But count me in for this one. TJC is one of my favorite DCU stories of the '80s.

Is The New Frontier that one by Darwyn Cooke, or am I mixing it up with someone else. (Yes, it's one of those Google-lazy days I'm afraid.)

That's cool!

You know, I don't follow the actual comic books in their storylines ( The television animation adaptations are more accessible to me -- I don't need a degree in superology to figure out what is going on), but lordy, lordy some of that artwork by Darwyn Cooke (http://comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=75630&GSub=200) is just beautiful. (I might actually try to find "The New Frontier" just for the artwork.) It'd be interesting if Timm tries to pick up that style or if he will keep it in his fine style...
