You don't think it's maybe because everybody (else) uses spellchecks that stuff like this can happen: because people are so used to having computers correct their mistakes for them, they've lost the habit of checking? (And no, I'm not saying that literals never happened in the Good Old Days; but I am saying that there were actually far fewer of them that made it into print before spellchecks came along. If you get accustomed to the cheat, you never learn the craft; and then when the cheat's not there, kablowie! You display how challegenged you are...)

PS - I've just been watching the headlines on Channel 4 News, and they showed a map of America and then zoomed in on 'Pennslyvania' in very big letters. See, even when it's the only word on the whole damn screenshot, nobody actually reads it...
