LJ comment notification still seems borked (which is better than the entire site being borked, like yesterday, but still not something one expects out of a company that sells a paid product and should be investing in things like redundant power supplies).

it's more complicated than that

As I understand it, their colo did/does have redundant power supplies, but needed to do maintenance on one. For some reason this required they power down their system (I don't quite understand this but colo power dynamics are complicated enough I could see it be a "reasonable" requirement). Everything went smoothly with the power change over, but then when they started bringing things back up their servers didn't come back right.

I would like to read a complete technical description of the problem and formal apology and 1$ refund, but that's not going to come until sometime next week.

But it wasn't the power after all - it was the KGB preventing Russians from accessing independent news sources during political protests in Moscow because Brad Fitz sold them the censorship rights to LiveJournal...

Because the internet is for porn!

I mean, uh...

It's not like we all don't have better things to do than sit on LJ for hours a day. I can just imagine the sad sacks during that time clicking reload, and clicking, and clicking...

Then again I did that for about an hour off and on, because I'd had about a dozen tabs of things open to read and reply to as I'd just gotten time after work to browse.

But, I have an MT blog, so I survived. ;)

Also, just remembered: go to the Manage Subscriptions page and turn on "someone comments on my journal, on any entry" and click email, and it's better than nothing (if it works, I just turned it on because I just remembered).

If you're wanting replies in someone else's journal, just click the on the thread and you'll get the comments in your inbox.

Again, not perfect, but better than nothing.

Here's my tale of woe annoyance: I had just edited an entry Saturday morning, noticed a glaring (to me) pair of spelling and coding mistakes, and started trying to correct 'em...and THAT was when the site started going down. But it wasn't completely down yet, so it would start to bring up the "edit entry" page then...uh, no. Then it would get to the "edit entry" page, but not preview. Or save. And this is all happening sssssssssssssssssslowly.

I felt like a weenie for how much I kept trying. Finally I saw more signs of the site being borked, accepted it and went on, and DID SOMETHING ELSE. But oy, I'm an editor at heart, and not being ableto edit was almost worse than not getting to read entries!

I'm much better now. ;-)
