True, but that only showed what would transpire. Claire was still targeted for death, as a hero, but having the entire series end on a twist when they realized that Jackie was essential would amuse me.
It would be a blowout, however. Peter doesn't get how to use powers that well yet, and Sylar has some powers (some form of limited superspeed and teke) that an expert could use to win a battle pretty damned quickly.
Basically, Peter (like Peter Parker early on) isn't prepared enough to use his powers against the big boys.
Speaking of future Hiro, if present Hiro has just proven he can't change the past, then coming back in time isn't going to do anything. The disaster (probably started by that guy who radiates when angry) will still happen.
Except that we don't know that "I can't change the past" is, in fact, true. Hiro failed to save Charlie. With more experience and greater control over his powers, it isn't a given that he can never change the past.
And in fact, he already has. By coming back to speak to Peter on the train, he set things in motion that wouldn't otherwise have happened. Peter knew to take the calls Isaac was ignoring. He knew he had to find out who the cheerleader was and try to save her.
It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Hiro may yet save Charlie. With greater control of his powers, maybe he'll get another bite at the apple. Talking to himself on the phone proved that he can coexist with an earlier version of himself--so why not a third?
Hiro did change the past -- remember Charlie didn't recognize Hiro when he and Ando first walked into the diner. Which means when he went to the past and started a relationship with her, he did change things. And in some ways he did save Charlie....
Now *that* would be interesting. Course, one has to wonder if Sylar's powers are copyable, since it seems that he actually stole everything but the ability to figure out what actually made people super.
Because Hiro was the one who came back thru time to tell him... and he would've said something like "save the OTHER cheerleader, save the world" if that were the case.
