One advantage of the new, very improved Tivo is having enough space to record the daily reruns of Homicide: Life on the Steet, a show I was never able to watch regularly during its original days.

My viewing has started during season 6 (which means I'm likely spoiling myself for when they cycle around again), which I'm quite enjoying.

What really impresses me, though, is that Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe were cast as the primary guest stars in back-to-back episodes. If the next rerun I watch doesn't feature Jamie Sheridan, I'll be disappointed.

I might still have D'Onofrio's Homicide episode on tape: PBS aired it along with a good behind-the-scenes doc on the making of that episode. (Good episode; I still remember the Melissa Etheridge-like singer in the station singing "Just killin' time...")

Genuinely great show. Wait 'til you get to that season's finale...

Heh. I'm pretty sure Jamie Sheridan was never in an episode so you're safe!

If you're enjoying season six, you're gonna love earlier seasons. I remember pretty much hating seasons six and seven but upon giving some episodes another chance, I realize they're decent and some are quite good. (They just aren't as good as earlier seasons IMHO, you know how that is when you watch a show and it has it's decline in later years).

Will be a different perspective starting there, but an interesting one. I'll be curious to hear what you think should you post about any episodes or seasons. Oh-- I wouldn't watch Homicide: The Movie right after the end of season seven, I'd wait on it 'til you've seen the other seasons. FWIW. Dunno if they'll air it anyway, but I'm just saying (since it involves characters from lots of previous seasons).

My TiVo will suggest episodes but since I have 'em all on DVD I usually delete 'em. Though it might be interesting to watch a familiar episode or two to see how much they're edited for TV these days.

The "Anatomy of Homicide: Life on the Street" special that aired on PBS re the making of "The Subway" episode is really awesome. It's available on the season six DVD set and also on videotape with the Subway episode (though that's probably harder to find by now). Worth tracking down if you're interested in the making of TV shows.

Wasn't D'Onofrio nom'd for an Emmy for that performance?

The worst of Homicide still kicks the ass out of most television. *sigh*
