The trailer for Nancy Drew.

I watched the trailer with Elayna, who (with the discriminating taste that has declared Haunted Mansion one of the best movies of all time), is very excited.

I hid how appalled I was from her, as we'll probably let her grandparents suffer through seeing it.

It's written by Tiffany Paulsen, the girl who was killed in the opening scene of Jason Takes Manhattan (the worst F13 movie, you'll recall), who clearly learned much from her experiences. And it's co-written and directed by Andrew Fleming, who somehow hasn't been kicked out of Hollywood for his remake of The In-Laws. I'm not sure who will get a writing credit when the eventual lawsuit hits, as it's clear that The Brady Bunch Movie and Mean Girls are providing almost all of the non-mystery plot and characters.

The teeny bopper remake of Robert Palmer's "Looking for Clues" is a bonus insult.

I was never a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys kid. Now if they were to do a big screen version of Encyclopedia Brown and screw that up I'd be annoyed...

You heard about the "Hardy Men" film with Stiller & Cruise, no?

Heh, I'm still gonna watch it. The Nancy Drew fan in me demands it.

That, and I figure it's gonna be better than the Hardy Men movie.

If the first minute and a half doesn't tip you off to the type of movie it is, the fact that the first on-screen text is, "Get Hip" should do it. They couldn't simply make a Nancy Drew movie and expect kids to come see it the way it is originally set up. I don't see the books on many book store shelves these days and in such a crowded YA market, I'm impressed the movie got made.

I'll see it at some point, considering she's my name sake. (And the fact that I did read all the originals as a kid.)

huh. you know i have this weird suspicion this was only made because Veronica Mars has done so well....and they needed a different character to run with so Hey! let's modernize nancy.

still the actress playing the lead is showing up in a lot of things these days.
