The moral of this story is, don't make a black-and-white arthouse horror flick in Esperanto starring William Shatner.

You'd think that would have been obvious.

I'm surprised they don't mention that Shatner's wife drowned in their pool just the year before the article was published.

Thing is, anyone involved with any movie will die or have misfortune eventually. Ooh, the Prairie Home Companion Curse!

If you recall, I actually kinda liked the movie (http://community.livejournal.com/cinemaeater/25724.html).

I hear there's a curse attached to that one, too. Everyone involved in the production turned into drunken party idiots.

Oh, wait.

Shatner's wife drowned because she was wearing red. You never do that around Shatner.

As for "You'd think that would have been obvious" - this was pre-Star Trek (TJ Hooker, et al.) so they hadn't been adequately warned yet.

I've actually seen that movie. Bruce and I were flipping channels one night and stopped on this thing (having caught it halfway through) and just sat there saying, "What? Shatner? What? What language is that?"

We were able to identify it later by googling "Shatner Esperanto movie". I think I only figured out it was Esperanto by ruling out all other languages that sounded even remotely like it.

It's actually not that bad a movie - if a tad on the pretentious side.

And of course, the Big Sur Coast always looks good...

I loved it, myself. It was a lot of fun to watch. The thing that really struck me was how naturally Esperanto seemed to lend itself to Shatner's acting style and vocal cadence. It's almost as if he were born to speak it, or even born speaking it.

That concept is so scary, I'm afraid to follow the link...

I only know about that movie thanks to the behind-the-scenes of
Blade 3. Since they had esperanto as a language in the movie when Van Wilder (whose real name escapes me righ tnow and I'll probably remember right after hittign submit...wait Ryan something isn't it) is injured and resting it's on the tv he's watching.
