Birthday Dinner
Apr. 10th, 2007 08:15 amTwo days ago, money was hella tight (as in, if we'd been in a situation in which we needed to buy ramen to save our lives, we might have been doomed). Then good things happened yesterday, so we were able to go out and celebrate my birthday. And better yet, the good folks at Not Your Average Joe's sent me a "free entree" email coupon.
The poor hostess had to deal with an insane person ranting about how she was entitled to a booth even though the booths had been reserved (and she was by herself). The hostess was infinitely more gracious than this person deserved, but I suspect we caused her a lot less stress ("Table for three, and we can live without a booth."). Incidentally, we got seated in a booth. :-)
As always, they started us off with foccacia and a garlic/oil/pepper/romano dipping sauce. Which meant that we could skip appetizers. I adore that dip. So damned good.
For entrees, Elayna had her usual pasta with red sauce. Shadesong had the steak au poivre (one of the specials), and after considering the black angus sirloin meatloaf, I opted for the Chicken Oscar, a pan-seared chicken breast with scallops and shrimp in a white wine sauce with mushrooms and artichoke hearts. It was excellent (and, as a bonus, I had Elayna try a scallop that was sauce-free, and she loved it).
In spite of the fact that I'd already gotten a free birthday entree, I was apparently also entitled to a free dessert. Another reason to love this place. :-) I debated the choices, but in the end, we had to resort to our old standby, the Peanut Butter Thing. Yum.
As always, the food and the service were both excellent. Yay for a good birthday dinner!
Afterwards, we hit the Watertown library to return books, and ended up walking out of there with at least twenty new ones between us. Including a signed and numbered Subterranean Press novella. Yay, more to read!
