Running out the door this morning, I grabbed [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's keys instead of my own. That means that she (or anyone else) can't use the car, and I can't get into my office, as I'm here a good hour before anyone else. And I've got a ton of fucking work to do. I do not need this shit today. I cannot fucking believe I work in the one place where they still use keys instead of swipe cards.

Wireless access is nice, but the stuff I need is inside that office. My entire fucking morning is wasted.

I feel for you.

One word for you... Duplicates.

After locking my keys in the car at work this summer, 50 miles from home, I have a set of dupilicate car keys at home, and a set of duplicate office keys in my purse.

This, of course, does not help you now, but may help you in the future...

I once accidentally grabbed husband's keys on the way to the airport, and got halfway there before he called me to see if I had them. That sucked. Since then I've put distinctive crap on my keychain to ensure I don't confuse them again...

Could be worse; I left my dad's car keys in my pocket one time. I then proceeded to fly back to Boston from Seattle...oops.

Definitely dupes.

I have locked myself out of my own car so many times that I now have several dupes, one of which is in my wallet.

You don't work in anywhere near the only place where they use keys instead of swipe cards. *chuckle* There's lots of older buildings in NYC that still use such archaic locking mechanisms as etched metal in tumblers....

(Also, my keys stay in my front left pants pocket at all times, which prevents this from ever happening. I've never understood why more people don't do this, honestly....)

I'm sure you're probably in your office by now, but can't security let you in?

If his keys are like mine, they're state property & can't be duplicated.

Indeed. Bastards.
