This week is TV Turn-Off Week.

It's also the return of Heroes (and also has new episodes of Drive, Lost, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Legion of Super-Heroes, The Tudors, The Sopranos, Mythbusters, and other nifty shows.

Took me about six seconds to decide which one I'm choosing. It's only an idiot box if you're an idiot to begin with.

It's a stupid idea. It only makes sense if you accept the proposition that TV is inherently bad. The same kind of people would have been promoting "Stay Away from the Globe Week," because Shakespeare's plays were "passive entertainment."

That rant came out so fully-formed I'm inclined to believe I've said it before.

I'm not the hugest TV fan in teh world, and I've been known to use my TV-B-Gone while at a bar, but I think it's a bit ironic that they have commercials airing for this.

Plus, "Escape the Fantasy"? Nuh-uh, not if the reality is some strident proselytizer trying to push an agenda on me, no matter how well-meaning. I'll be sure to watch Lost this Wednesday night. :P

Now there's an idea I can get behind. I think last week would have made a fine Stay Away from the Globe Week.

1. I hardly watch t.v. anyway! I've been without it in my apartment for so long I keep forgetting I have it now.
2. No one will take my Scrubs away from me. Gramma's watching her stories, kids, shaddup.
3. T.V. time is knitting time, screw them for telling me that's passive or non-responsive. Jerks. I May watch more tv this week just to spite them, now.

Do you get credit in the movement if you watch all of them on-line? (Cause you can. I'm not *going to*, cause you'd have to wait something ungodly like 10 hours or so to get my new Heroes fix, but still...you *can* do it.)

It’s all about saying no to being bombarded with unwelcome and unhealthy commercial messages. It's about saying no to unfettered corporate media concentration and to the democratic deficit that results. And it's about challenging the heavily distorted reflection of the world that we see on the screen, a reflection that is keeping us ill-informed and unaware of the very real political and environmental crises that we all currently face.

As it happens, all my television is downloaded or on DVD, and all my news is online, so I long ago stopped subjecting myself to commercial advertisements and network news.

Go, me! Or something.

As a TV addict, I reject this concept. Bring on the TV.

Do you like my new TV icon? I've been planning to make it for weeks, but this entry forced my hand.
