Today is turning into a royally shitty day, so let's talk about Saturday. More importantly, let's talk about brunch!
After living in H20town for six months, we finally found our way to the storied Deluxe Town Diner. Since the west half of the town has Talk of the Town and The Spot, we hadn't exactly suffered for lack of good weekend meals (and there's something to be said for ones within walking distance of the house*), but given the reputation DTD has as one of the best brunch places in the Boston area, we did want to give it a shot.
And oh, god, it was worth it.
The bacon there is beautiful, thick, crisp, and tasty. But next time, I'm getting the corned beef hash as my side. It's got nice solid chunks of potatoes in it, not the diced to a pulp stuff that even better restaurants often default to. And the beef itself was just perfect and tender.
Oh, who am I kidding? Next time, I'll just get both sides.
As for my entree, I had the salmon benedict. When I've gotten this at other places in the past, they usually used baked or poached salmon, but DTD used smoked salmon. Pastrami-spiced smoked salmon, actually. It works very well. And the potatoes that came with it were nice and crispy, and went wonderfully with the remnants of the yolks and hollandaise.
'song had the sweet potato waffle, which was also yummy. They only offer that one on weekends, but they do make sweet potato pancakes on weekdays.
The coffee didn't overwhelm me, but otherwise, it was a damned good meal.
*Technically, DTD is walking distance, as it's two miles away as the Google Map flies, but it's not exactly as convenient.

Date: 2007-05-08 02:21 pm (UTC)It's also a very good area for biking - I used to get all over the area. I'd regularly bike to places in Arlington, Needham, Natick, Wilmington, Burlington, Lexington, as well as in town - often to MIT or Comm Ave.
