1. Gotta love ninth inning comebacks.

2. This optical illusion is fucking amazing. As in, good enough to make me pull out a sheet of paper to verify the straight lines.

3. GE Dishwasher recall. These suckers can burst into flames, so make sure yours isn't on the list. ETA: Note that other brands have recalls as well. Read the comment by ckd below for more info.

4. For those not on late last night, yet another voice has been heard from in the Mary Jane Statue Kerfuffle, and artist Tom Hodges pretty much single-handedly wins a game of bingo.

5. Ever wonder about the creators behind the hate-filled (yet somehow, amazingly enough, almost never amusing) Lockhorns? Now you can learn all about them. Although, as Mark Evanier has noted in the past, Newsday's stories on comic strip creators aren't known for their accuracy.

6. Vitamin Water wants you to Try Sperm.

7. Finally, as noted by sff_corgi, Joost will soon offer Babylon 5, Max Headroom, V, and The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. It'll also offer Crusade, but you're not forced to watch that, thankfully.

Note that this is in addition to a previous recall of Maytag and Jenn-Air dishwashers for a very similar problem. (Yeah, also with the "may ignite" thing; I wonder if they used the same OEM for the rinse aid dispensers.)

#4... First of all, I actually LIKE Tom. I've met him several times. Nice guy. Damned good artist, too.

The statue IS pretty crappy, but I have to admit that I rather liked the original Hughes artwork that inspired it (which can be seen here: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/jpg/68181_press01-001.jpg). I have to agree with Tom that they sculptors didn't capture a certain... playfulness... that was present in the original. They just made MJ look trashy.

I guess the big difference for me is that the original Hughes work was sexy and the sculpt is just... sexist. Just my not-so-humble opinion, of course... YMMV.

I see the difference you talk about, but I still have some serious concerns about the conception of the design as a whole. That said, I think that probably resides at the feet of someone other than AH.

re: #1, if we had a half competent bullpen, we'd be doing a lot better. thank goodness we won today tho, as i can make fun of my white sox loving friends.
