We hit the Landmark in Waltham to catch Pirates of the Caribbean 3, and loved it. Frankly, I don't understand the whining (or the whinging) over this one, unless folks are upset that characters have developed significantly and now have motivations, internal conflicts, and split allegiances instead of the black hat/white hat stuff we got in the first two flicks.

We then wandered Waltham for a bit, hitting two used bookstores (shock!) and Lizzy's Ice Cream. We're now catching up on Tivo (The Tudors), although Elayna's not a part of this last one.

Overall, a kickass day.

I was in Lizzy's three weeks ago. :)

Also, that's not the primary fuss I hear about POTC3. The primary complaint I've heard is that there are too many plot lines that just confuse, rather than complement, each other.

These are probably the same people who complain that they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Life is complicated, good movies imitate life. I love a movie that I have two watch several times to catch everything...that just shows me that the writers (and actors) did a good job.

They were preparing for a Good Touch! Good Touch! ;-) Don't worry, you'll know when THAT happens...

Actually, they're people who enjoy complicated stories, but didn't like the way they were handled in POTC3. Taste varies.

Waltham. Sill never been to Harvard, intended to last time, but my knees gave out, and Boston's not the most scooter-accessible US city.

Those used bookstores are pretty decent. There's an okay gaming store out there too, but Pandemonium totally kicks their asses.

I agree with you...I thought POTC3 was fantastic. I had no problem following hte plot lines, and enjoyed the way things were developed. I enjoyed the silliness, and the depth, and everything in between.

Everyone's a fuckin' critic nowadays. Bah.

I wanna go see it again..only saw it once, but I'm truly itchin' for a 2nd showing. ;)

Everyone's a fuckin' critic nowadays. Bah.

And so many of the critics seemed to have pre-written their POTC3 reviews -- making the same points, cracking the same wanna-be jokes, and barely saying anything about the actual film. It was like many of them were reviewing more the very existence of the film than the film itself. At least Alexandra DuPont gave a negative review with details and reasons.

I write this as someone who hasn't seen POTC3 yet. I'm not in a hurry to see it, but see it I shall, and in the theater.

I totally agree with POTC3. It was easy to follow the story lines if you paid attention to the other 2 movies. People wanted eye candy, not brain candy.
And two words:
flaming monkey.
