1. I'm officially on vacation until 7/8. Woohoo!

2. I've finally eaten at Elephant Walk (for a co-worker's going-away lunch, alas), and I'm damned impressed. Yum.

3. The Complete Man From U.N.C.L.E.! From Time-Life, alas.

4. Sadly, the Spice Girls reunion tour is only a reminder of the fact that no matter how bad an artist might have once seemed, enough sucktastic acts will eventually come along to embue the older act with a sheen of nostalgia. Ten years from now, mark my words, someone out there is going to say, "thank God for this Nickelback reunion tour." That someone will not, incidentally, be me.

5. As noted by [livejournal.com profile] boutell: Wookiepedia. It pretty much speaks for itself.

6. Good news: Moonlight, the CBS vampire series that is now being produced by former Angel executive producer David Greenwalt (although he wasn't around for the final and best season) has cast Jason Dohring as a vampire. The bad news: they've also cast Shannon Sossaman. Unless they've cast her in a non-speaking role, expect every scene featuring her to be painful to watch.

7. Speaking of things that suck, how about that new CNN.com?

8. A Wii-Lightsaber game!

9. This coming weekend, we'll be up at ReaderCon!

10. I got my first ever significant Freecycle item yesterday -- a nice Honeywell two-fan window unit. With remote control and thermostat, even.

11. We also went to a nice party at [livejournal.com profile] sunspiral's yesterday. I got peopled out after a few hours, but it was still very much with the fun (there are too few parties at which conversations about film noir break out). Apologies to all the folks I failed to recognize (woo for faceblindness and general forgetfulness!), and for anyone I didn't say goodbye to.

12. Google wins the "why transparency and catering to your big corporate advertisers don't mix" award. "Do no evil," my ass. (Ganked from Some BIts).

13. Mike Hargrove resigned? Wow. That was seriously unexpected. Especially considering how well the Mariners are doing.

14. Finally, Happy Canada Day!

Moonlight has Sophia Miles. I have a massive crush on her from DOCTOR WHO. I need to stay far, far away from this show.

Actually, I like the new CNN.com. I can actually skim the damned thing now, whereas before finding any one specific item on the front page was a undertaking of Herculean proportions.

Obviously, you haven't been to enough of my dinner parties, then.

[Which reminds me that it's been too long since I've hosted a dinner party.]

What up with the Sossamon hate? I liked her in Rules of Attraction and Dirt.

i liked a knight's tale personally.

upon further review, seeing that she was the main lady, i take back my liking of her. i thought she was the blacksmith chick. the main lady was kind of a pain, yes.

also, i fear for the days of creed reunion tour. or if we're talking british bands, since spice girls and police are back, when's the inevitable queen with zombie mercury, the jam, and herman's hermits reunion tour? i just cant get enough of that mrs brown....

If you ever say anything positive about Nickleback I will take you into a dark room and slap you silly for your own good; I'm that good of a friend.

True. Say what you will about the Spice Girls, at least they sang their songs and had a positive message for young women however annoying as well as catchy the songs might be.

Ms. Turner published a response (http://google-health-ads.blogspot.com/2007/07/my-opinion-and-googles.html)

There is a good discussion of this here (http://blog.outer-court.com/forum/101004.html#id101120)

I really didn't think it was as outrageous & objectionable as others, but as that is apparently an official mouthpiece for google it deserves to be considered.

The thing about digg shutting down all discussion of it is more scary though.

Yes on Man from U.N.C.L.E. My dad has been bemoaning the fact that it isn't available for years. One, it will finally get him to shut up because I think that's the last nostalgic TV series of his that hadn't been released yet and two, Man from U.N.C.L.E. This news is totally made from win.

I worked in a video store when Spice World came out, and it was one of those ones that played new releases on giant wall-sized TVs... I think I had to convince myself that they didn't completely suck to keep my sanity during the period of time I was forced to watch them 24 hours a week.

I registered for Spice Girls reunion tickets. No shame. No shame. If I get to buy tickets, I will be wearing a union jack dress and dancing wildly to "Spice up your Life."

They are so fantastically tacky. I can't wait.
