1. Review will probably go up very late tonight, since we'll be packing and then attending Readercon.

2. I finally hit level 13 in KOL. Let me say that the revised NS seems to be fucking unbeatable. It's gotten so hard, I've considered dropping HC. Anyone have any good tips?

3. Lanark, one of my favorite novels, is 25 years old! It also appears to be back out of print, which just sucks.

4. Looks like my Mets are back to being ugly. No way can they survive a July that's anything like their June.

5. Sex and the City: The Movie. Why? I mean, the show wrapped everything up, and, frankly, the tv format is infinitely better for storytelling anyway. What fans have actually been "clamoring" for this?

6. Lisa Simpson for president! I'd vote for her, but I don't think she meets the minimum age requirement.

7. Today is National Workaholics Day. I, however, am on vacation. Damn me and my non-patriotic tendency to undermine holidays!

8. Speaking of patriotism, the USA has reclaimed the Hot Dog title!

9. Disney recycles their cells! Granted, they're likely really recycling reference poses, but it's still fascinating.

I just got through the hedge maze today.

Does the Sorceress at least get easier with multiple attempts? I've never beaten her first go, but using the Airship items to remove Beaten Up and heal up again I was able to try her repeatedly without wasting turns.

And can you still Furry Suit her level way down? If they nerfed that strategy a lot of people are going to be screwed, because I've never been able to beat her at my own full power, either.

(Is it just me or is the level 12 quest far far far far FAR too long and far far far far FAR too repetitive?)

Yeesh. Well, Bashy did it. Of course, Bashy used to be able to ascend in one day. :P

Me too. I think I hit level 13 by the time I'd finished two of them, since it took me a while to figure them out and I did too much unnecessary fighting in the Junkyard.

I spent most of the level 12 quest invulnerable to anything anyone could do to me -- as long as I had my basic buffs on, I was taking more damage from fumbles than from opponent action. Seriously ... yes, I know World of Warcraft makes you fight thousands and thousands of monsters, but ...

I think I'm not only not going to do 'core (except possibly ONCE to get a stainless steel solitaire) but that I may be switching to casual ascension, simply so I can leapfrog to the two quests that together now constitute over half the total game!

Don't know what class you are, so I don't know if it helps, but I am told that ~210 moxie is enough to just not get hit by her at all. Easier said than done, and probably not possible at all without effects if you are not moxie class, but worth considering.

Personally, I plan to blast the crap out of her with spells.

I'm enjoying the new content, but they have done *loads* of nerfing which I find very annoying.
Still, I like how Saucecrafting works better for the Sauceror now. Mebbe they should do something like that for Pastamancer foods.

She's just a regular boss now, no scaling to stats, according to the wiki, so the old strategies (mainly the Furry Suit) no longer work. She does get easier to hit the more times you go up against her, but it takes a while to notice it (basically, items/spells hit more often, it doesn't lower her HP/MP or anything).

You can still use items/familiars to delevel her as before, but she can still shrug them off as before after a certain point.

Basically, she's completely different to fight now. You can beat her on your own now because her stats don't scale to yours any longer, while before her moxie=your muscle and her muscle=your moxie, so she was your opposite enough to avoid any basic attack and such.

The level 12 quest is long, unless you do all the side quests, that cuts down the length of the main "battle". It did feel really damned repetitive though.

on the plus side regarding the mets, lo duca's quote is one of the funniest things i've read in a while. i can just imagine jesus as a relief pitcher, throwing the gyroball. you know he would make a great relief pitcher too, cause jesus saves

it was actually an exciting contest, though there was one of the guys who was a complete butt lick, he carried a sign as they intro duced him and flipped it around with a harry potter spoiler.

May I refer you to the Sex and The City tours?

Also, I've met multiple women that have either moved here under the premise that their life was going to be like the show or that they've been living here and they'd want their life to be exactly like the show; it's their aspiration.

Color me disgusted.

I can't even start to explain how much that show is the bane of my dating existence. The movie(I won't call it a film or cinema because it's clearly low-brow) is just going to refresh all the crazy women in NYC of those stupid ideas the show propagates.

and about the workaholics day, I went to bed at 4am and woke up at 10am. I was working yesterday from 1pm-8pm and then from 11pm until 4am and I'll go to work again at 4pm today until midnight. It's going to be awesome, not!

What kills me is that even though it promulgates a image of women as sottish, sychophants it simultaneously tries to purport an image of independence which is disgusting; then there is the fact that almost every episode ends in a bombastic, hackneyed moral of the story. To top that all off, women actually want to be these characters because they refuse to accept reality.

Looks like my Mets are back to being ugly. No way can they survive a July that's anything like their June.

Except that for all the Mets keep botching their games in every possible way, they are still 3.5 games ahead of the Braves. The NL East is weak this year, and that may prove to be their saving grace.

Yup. Sadly enough, the Mets are the least-screwed-up team in the division.

The Braves just can't seem to do much of anything, good or bad. The Phillies have pretty much zero pitching whatsoever; they're only at .500 because they can often score just as many runs as they give up.

I lost twice to her.

Then I switched to ring of increase damage, stainless steel necklace, and some other elemental damage item. I used a plexiglass pith helmet and headbutted her to death.

Hmmm. I hope both the Bravos and the Mets tie up. I think it'd be fun having a race for first at the end of the season...
