Quick Monday afternoon post
Jul. 9th, 2007 04:14 pmPosting even as I'm heading out the door for home:
1. Yes, I did fall behind on the reviews at Readercon. No regrets, honestly, but expect things to start again tonight (I've got a review written, but am so tired, I can't be sure it's coherent).
2. Jane Magazine is dead. Not a shock (they've undergone the woman's interest magazine equivalent of the shift that Giant's undergone on the Men's side), but still a mild surprise.
3. Robert Zemeckis clearly hates me. Because raw spite is the only possible explanation for this.
4. Amazon is selling Against the Day, Pynchon's latest, for $7 in hardcover. That's 80% off and less than the paperback price will be this fall.
5. Free Smashing Pumpkins Covers Songs! The bad news: It's still songs by the Pumpkins. But at least the whining is done by someone other than Billy Corgan!
6. For more ReaderCon reactions, see this post.
7. And no, I don't care about All-Star Weekend. I care less now, in fact, that it "matters," since I can't see what incentive Tony La Russa, Dmitri Young, or Barry Bonds have to play a game with post-season consequences on the line. Nor do I believe that this is anything close to a set of the "best" players in the game, even accounting for folks like Smoltz who have dropped out thanks to injuries.
7.5 Okay, Bonds has incentive because it's his hometown park.
8. Finally, an older article at Cognitive Daily suggests that having a high IQ isn't as good as it sounds. The Simpsons, of course, had already figured that out.
Time to head home. Followed by a fucking nap.

Date: 2007-07-09 10:11 pm (UTC)Ava Adore is an awesome freaking song...
James Iha and Billy Corgan wrote some exquisitely weird music together.

Date: 2007-07-10 01:46 am (UTC)I like Bob Zemeckis. I worked for him. He was nice, and a good leader.
But damnit.... mo--*coughcough*"PERFORMANCE" cap?
I am so depressesd by this trend, and only hope that he sold out to the mo-cap madness because he was being flogged by a wet, electrified cthulhu with a particular liking for smacking his tender nether regions.
:( Bad enough they took the pencils away from the animators. Now they're taking the animators away from animation.
Boo.
