1. Merv Giffin died. :-(

2. HBO has picked up the Southern Vampire series! Yay! So with HBO grabbing Sookie Stackhouse, and Lifetime doing a great job with the Vicki Nelson books, will Cinemax go for Anita Blake and Her Amazing Ardeur for their late-night schedule?

3. Well, the horses have all gone away, so let's shut that barn door!

4. The iTop!

5. Ken MacLeod provides a nice roundup of links regarding 21st Century Atheism.

6. For months, [livejournal.com profile] dicotomygrrl has been recommending DMZ as a comic I need to read. A trip to the Watertown library this weekend revealed that the first two volumes -- On the Ground and Body of a Journalist -- were in stock, and they were both amazing. The only other work by Brian Wood I'd read was Local. DMZ is just as good, and Wood's now on my list of authors to keep an eye out for.

7. The Simpsons Sonics are going to Japan Oklahoma!

8. "The Brain" is a trademarked term. Enforcement on this one should be interesting, since Warner Brothers has two characters (a mouse and a Doom Patrol villain) using that name, and Bobby Heenan can probably claim it as well.

9. Decapitated Snake bites his killer! It's like the snake's really a penanggalan! Or maybe just got bitten by one.

10. Dear SCO: The sound you're hearing is just about everyone in any tech field point at you and shouting "ha ha" a la Nelson Muntz.

on #8?

I greatly suspect that had to do with brain being capitalized "the Brain" probably triggered a default - note that there's a "request an exception" link... then again, it's probably likely that it's Warner Bros that has it trademarked with relation to merchandising for the mouse...

I think everything after Book 8 is too hardcore for even Skinemax. Now Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/h/kim-harrison/) I could see working on Cinemax. Also I never noticed until just now that all her titles are parodies of Eastwood movies...

The Brain (http://www.thebrain.com/) used to have an office across the hall from my company. I didn't interact with them much, but we did borrow their T1 line shortly after 9/11 when making changes to the communication infrastructure was a bit slow going.

re #2 whomever wrote that tidbit article should be fired (or learn how to use spellcheck - there's at least 2 glaring typos in it)
