1. This weekend, I caught The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (during its one-week engagement at the Landmark Kendall Square). I adored it. It's the story of Steve Wiebe's pursuit of the Donkey Kong world record, a record that has stood for decades and been held by a guy name Billy Mitchell. Highly recommended for any fan of old-school games.

2. Owen Wilson is "dehydrated." Just like Lindsay Lohan used to get "exhausted."

3. Tim Bray on Pantone's missed opportunity.

4. AAAAAAAAA! (Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] tnh over at Making Light).

5. The horror film you've been waiting for: Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre. Starring original Leatherface Gunnar Hansen. I am so there when this makes its US debut.

6. The horror film I've not been waiting for. That's all I feel a need to say about that one.

7. The US horror film that I really am excited about. Yes, I already joined the "Hatchet Army." :-)

8. Brett Ratner's Notes for his Film Version of The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

9. Rumors of the new iPods (likely due on Sept 5)! As always, take 'em with a grain of salt.

10. Finally, Heroes hits DVD tomorrow. Yatta!

I am sure he is dehydrated. Being drunk all the time does that to you. :)

The Alamo Drafthouse actually brought Steve Wiebe in for the opening weekend of King of Kong, as well as the Twin Galaxies judge (the guitar-playing bloke whose name escapes me just now). Steve came across as a pleasant, low-key fellow who kept getting talked over in the Q&A by the judge. Also spotted in the lobby at the screening that night: Brian Kuh, the fellow who goes around the arcade telling everyone, "There's gonna be a Donkey Kong kill screen in a few minutes, if you wanna see it."

The Drafthouse also had a DK contest of their own, with qualifying rounds before each screening. The best player at our screening lasted for about 5 minutes and scored 15,000 points; most people barely made it over a minute.

Letting all your blood out doesn't help, either.

Yeah, a few of us debated (not seriously) the merits of asking him how it felt to be Billy Mitchell's lackey. Tempting, but not really worth it.

DK is hard.

It's those @#$% bouncing springs on the elevator round that always get me.
