Andrew Burt is doing his level best to make SFWA look dumber than an Idahoan senator.

That said, what he's done here, according to the DMCA provisions, is to commit perjury. Not sure, though, if doing it under the aegis of the SFWA makes the organization responsible, or he's still the guilty party.

Not that, to the best of my knowledge, anyone has actually been convicted of perjury for abusing the DMCA yet. But it sounds like Burt really wants to be a test case.

ETA: Ironically, Burt is president of another organization that's supposed to allow the individual authors to control what works of theirs can be accessed.

From my reading of the "takedown notice" emails, he didn't manage to actually send a proper DMCA takedown notice anyway. Calling his first email a takedown notice, while a total lie at best mistaken doesn't make it one any more than calling a tail a leg makes it one.

Yeah. I blame Scribd a little for not calling shenanigans on the non-notices, but Burt is defintely the one who should get the vast majority of the blame.
