For the first time since the great Cube 2: Hypercube debacle of ought two, I'm recording a movie making its debut on Sci-Fi: Highlander 5: The Source.

I fully expect it to suck a lot -- and yes, I'm from the branch of Highlander fandom that accepts the TV series. But that show jumped and beheaded the shark during its fifth season, and as he approaches 50, Adrian Paul is looking decidedly less immortal. On the other hand, if "The Source" turns out to be a surprise New Gods crossover, I'll be impressed.

I've seen the pirated version from russia. You and your Tivo will hate you for wasting your time. Hopefully they have done alot of editing.

Well, crap. Peter Wingfield/Methos is in it, so I'll be in front of my telly tonight. Thanks (I think, I guess) for the heads up.

That is the only reason I'm recording it. Methos. The only immortal worth a damned.

I didn't bother recording it, and I am of the glad. It was worth one watch, purely for the Methositude. It's a shame that the Methos Chronicles never became a reality (although I suspect that as fantastically interesting as Methos is, he works best as an antidote/spice to MacLeod's Immortal BoyScout routine.

Oh yeah, it will suck. But Adrian Paul is still a hottie - not bad for almost 50.

I've got a screener (!) but I'm holding off because I want to watch it live. I learned from previous Highlander movies that the anticipation is always the best part, so I'm savoring it for as long as possible.

Jumped the shark? What? What do you mean?

You can't possibly be talking about the whole Ahriman debacle storyline, can you? How could you possibly object to that?

I mean, after four seasons of exquisitely "shades of gray" storytelling full of moral dilemmas and good people doing bad things and bad people doing good things, how could you object to a childishly black and white story of a white-hatted eternal champion and a black as sin demonic opponent...

...oh wait. Right.

Yeah. Me too.

Anything including an "invisible" French midget is automatically FAIL. Even if the next season includes less Duncan. Actually, the best episodes from the final season were the ones without Adrian Paul in them.

I have my DVR set to go. I know it's going to suck. I just want to see how badly it will suck. :)

Oh, the suckmanity! Get out the hose, because that "movie" blew chunks. It's like they ran out of time. And budget. And writers. And extras.

It's really, really strange too because the same people who did such a good job with the tv series can't make a decent movie to save their souls! I don't get it.

Oh, I know. I watched the first 2 or 3 seasons fairly religiously during their original run. Hell, if I had more disposable income I'd probably buy the boxed set of all the DVDs. But tonight's event was a major disappointment. (Worse than Prophecy 4 & 5, if you can believe that...)

My friend [livejournal.com profile] blubeagle (one of 'Song's friends, too) had her own review-y thoughts, if you're in the mood to read review-y thoughts.

As for me, I never even saw the first film until last May. (Oh, and I had mroe thoughts here.) It's probably simpler for me to think of that one film as The One Film.

Oh. My. God.

Wasn't "Highlander: Endgame" a nice enough wrap-up for the Highlander saga? Did they *really* have to squeeze out one last movie, in much the same way as you would squeeze out a really thick turd (and producing a very similar result)?

Seriously. Fuck the people who wrote "Highlander: The Source". Thanks to them, there are now *two* Highlander movies that I have to pretend don't exist.
