I dunno, I wasn't that excited about "Lyra's Oxford," and I'm not that excited about this project, described as a "story" and a "companion" to the Oxford book. They both look like cash-in side projects, no matter how well they're done. What I loved about that trilogy was the world-building and the depth and the scope of the story. A book of maps and supplementary details presented after the fact doesn't excite me any more than JK Rowling's book on Quidditch.

Via SI: Barry Bonds won't be playing for the Giants next season. Bonds first said so online. The Giants have scheduled a news conference for 5 Pacific/8 your time, so I thought you might want a heads-up a few minutes early.

The only way I would read or buy that is if Pullman apologized for The Amber Spyglass and used the new book to completely replace it.
