Unless the website is a homepage for a band, I look at music or video that starts playing automatically as a site's way of saying, "Hi, you should really surf over to a site that doesn't suck."

Yes, that includes ESPN.

I'm fine with pages that do that within a site, but if sound starts coming out of my speakers that I didn't expect, you just lost me as a visitor.

One of the TV stations here in the UK had an autoplay, repeating video with a loud siren noise throughout. It was 'promoting' Prison Break and when I emailed them, they really couldn't see that it was a problem.

Mind you, my proposed action was to take the people responsible out and shoot them...
