The Family Guy Star Wars special? Way funnier than it had a right to be. Cameos by Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Rush Limbaugh were surprising moments, but the jokes that floored me the most were the Dr. Who and Asteroids moments. The final argument about Robot Chicken was a moment of added brilliance. As were the two Airplane! references.

It was much better than I expected it to be.

And how many of the regular viewers do you think got the Doctor Who reference? Peter is betting less than 10%

As soon as the music started playing, is started laughing hysterically. My girlfriend, sitting next to me on the couch, looked at me like I was insane.

I expect most of the references were lost on Family Guy's regular audience.

OMG OMG OMG Seth Green defending Robot Chicken! The horror! the horror!!

But the best, the thing that brought tears to my eyes, was Seth Green living out what must have been a life-long dream -- being Luke Skywalker and getting to deliever those wonderful lines.

"....but that would leave them .....home!"

"Uncle Owen! Aunt Beru! JOHN WILLIAMS!"

"Great! Now we're gonna have to finish it with Danny Elfman!"

Really, really well done.

And the Dr. Who reference totally floored me!

I seldom watch Family Guy but seeing this was going to be about Star Wars, well, I just had to watch. And I must say it was the most enjoyable Family Guy I've ever watched.
Yes, the Dr. Who bit was absolutely great! and Tom Baker Dr. Who at that!

Truly brilliant stuff. I have never seen Family Guy, but I know enough about it to get some of the references. I am really surprised that Lucas let them do it, what with Obi-Won being a pedophile and all. And agreed, Seth Green arguing about Robot Chicken at the end was great.

That was the first Family Guy I've seen, and the references were great - especially the two from Airplane. I did not get the Dr. Who moment, not being part of that fandom.

To comment on another of your tv posts last night, the opening from the Simpsons WAS wonderful!

ABsolutely agreed on all counts - and I don't watch FG anymore, simply because I think it's gone too over the top since it got brought back...
But we recorded and watched last night. And kept laughing!!!

The RC ending cracked me up but HARD!
(Although I told M before we got too far in that I suspected that Seth Green had a bit to do with LucasArts letting FG touch the franchise, given how brilliantly RC handled their StarWars special...)

p.s. My favorite line was "but isn't a Parsec a unit of distance?" :)
