Robert Goulet, star of any number of musicals (and namechecked in A Chorus Line), has passed away.

Even the most recent work of his that I can recall -- that Super Bowl commercial for Emerald nuts -- was wonderful.

I got to see him in Man of La Mancha. I remember being able to go OHHH!! When I saw Chorus Line/heard the soundtrack after that.

Oh no...that makes me so sad. I saw him on stage in Las Vegas when I was in junior high and again many years later playing the king in Camelot. He was awesome. The Super Bowl commercials were just great. My mum will be heartbroken.

Sad news if not entirely unexpected -- when I saw the words "lung transplant" a few days ago, I knew he couldn't have long left. :(

I saw a local TV interview with Robert Goulet when I lived in Tampa in the early 90s -- he came through town playing Arthur in a touring version of Camelot. I didn't really know who he was at the time other than that he was Old and Uncool, and I was Hip and Young and In My Early Twenties and so shouldn't have given him any thought at all.

But after watching this local TV interview, I was a Goulet fan. He was charming and funny and self-effacing and talented and seemed like someone who'd be fantastic to spend time with. Nothing I'd seen from him in the last fifteen years did anything to change that opinion.
