I love features that save me from doing something idiotic. This one in Safari 3 will be a lifesaver:

I cannot tell you the number of times I've typed two or three paragraphs, then lost a comment because I got distracted and closed some tabs.

ETA, yes, of course it works on LJ comments, too. Alas, it doesn't work when you navigate away from a tab by clicking on a link. But it's a start.

Opera saves LJ comments (and Wikipedia edits) if you navigate away, but it only seems to save them for one "hop", and only for a short time. I guess this is to strike a balance between convenience and privacy, but it can be annoying to accidentally miss that window of opportunity. Still: half a loaf is better than no bread, as they say in the old country.

Nice.

Web designers can also implement a nifty technique (http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creating/disableclose.html) that gives the user a similar choice before leaving the page. Works across browsers, including Safari 2, and can't be used to suppress page departure entirely (which would of course be a security / usability issue). I like how Safari is making this automatic in 3, but Safari can't always guess what "work you don't want to lose" might look like (especially if it's not in something obvious like text fields).

It's nice to have on the client end but in a javascript-based web application the client might not be able to tell. Are they just screwing around with an incredibly complex yet casually used thing they can take or leave (Google Maps) or are they locating cancer proteins?
