Um, what?

This article, regarding the casting of Sienna Miller in the G.I. Joe film, describes her role as, "a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage."

That would, of course, make her Baroness.

But the article calls her the film's female lead.

Um?

So they're either seriously re-writing Scarlett's backstory, or the article got something wrong.

Or they're having Baroness make a serious face turn.

Granted, I haven't followed the Devil's Due revival of the line (tried one issue, found that it sucked even more than most comics nowadays, and didn't bother after that). Maybe there's a retcon I'm missing.

... wtf.

Maybe it's a case of "we tell every actress she's the lead so she'll do the movie".

Which article? You didn't link it... so knowing the source could go a far way in knowing if it's the studio or the journalist/content place that wasn't paying attention and messed up.

Okay, if it's the Variety one... it sounds like that The Baroness character will have more face time then any female they might hire for Scarlett, if they even have a Scarlett.

The plot alone is retarded although "necessary". I don't have much trust in the writers or directors here though. Their track record is faulty and with working with such a major franchise... sccccaaaaareeed I am for something worse than Transformers and I haven't seen Transformers yet to even know how bad or good Michael bay really did that.

Transformers was actually really good. It had a decent amount of winking humor to the old cartoon, but not too much. And they didn't gut the history of the characters. Yes, some things changed, but none of it was bad, per se. It was just different. And I wound up liking Optimus' new look. My only real complaint is that the hacker subplot didn't really get enough development.

I haven't read the Devil's Due stuff, but Dreamwave's Transformers / G.I. Joe book, written by John Ney Rieber, was actually pretty good. It's got an alternate history setup, where COBRA basically replaces Germany as the instigator of WWII, and the Joes are a U.S. team assembled to go behind enemy lines and stop them. At which point Cobra Commander finds the Matrix.

Variety is often sloppy with details.
