Go here.

Get iTunes code.

End up with 34 songs, including ones by the above named bands, as well as Harry and the Potters, Suzy Boguss, Oh No Oh My, and others. There's even a song from a band called "Care Bears on Fire."

Thanks!

David was sharing some Marillion with me not that long ago. I really liked what I've heard so far. :) I passed the link along to him and will probably grab it myself when I get home.

Marillion is essentially two stages of one rock group. The first stage mainly occurs in the 80s with Derek Dick (Fish) as the lead vocalist. Then he leaves sometime in 1989 and the group has a new a singer in the form of Steve Hogarth (H) from then on...

Notable albums are Misplaced Childhood (1985) and Brave (1994)...

Sort of like what Genesis went through.

Will have to poke at him for songs from both stages so I can compare. Did the change affect the sound as a whole, or just the vocal style?

Thanks for sharing that. :)

*Jumps into thread*

Wow, I never thought I would find a Marillion conversation ;).

Fish went through some fairly dark periods while with Marillion. Clutching at Straws was his last album with Marillion, and it's depressing...unless songs about booze and failure get your heart pumping ;).
H.'s voice is very distinctive, and Marillion became much more of a art pop band with his addition. Holidays in Eden is perhaps the most accessible album, but my personal favorite is Brave.

Thanks for jumping in! :)

What songs would you suggest from both? I cannot recall the names of the songs that were already shared with me (They are on the hd at home), but I'd love to hear more. As well as be able to compare.

I would suggest starting with songs from Misplaced Childhood for Fish-era Marillion, especially the singles "Kayleigh" and "Lavender." I personally enjoy "Garden Party" and "That Time of the Night," neither of which appears on MC.

As for Hogarth, I like "Afraid of Sunlight," "Hard as Love," "Dry Land," and "The Space." I much prefer H-era Marillion, and there is much more of it to discover. I've also seen Marillion three times with H., and it's a fabulous show.

I recommend you pick up Six of One, Half-Dozen of the Other to get started. It's a "greatest hits" collection, but doesn't go beyond 1991. Still, a good start :).

Happy Listening!
