Doug Melvin offered Estrada to the Mets while naming six different players he'd accept in return.

Really?

I can only wonder who the other five players (aside from Mota) were. A Double-A bat boy? Brian Lawrence? Aaron Sele in a full body cast?

Reports are in that Milwaukee picked up all of Mota's salary, which is just amazing. If I were a GM, I'd ask for twice his salary to keep him on my forty-man roster.

I'd rather have Castro as the main starting catcher rather than Estrada, and they both have a history of injury problems. But by any measure this trade is a relief: No Mota!

i'm actually very supportive of this trade. nothing makes me feel better than realizing the brewers just got even worse than they were before. my favorite part of the trade is ned yost's terrible reasoning for why acquiring mota was a good idea.

"We are getting a quality relief pitcher who can pitch out of the back of the pen. We have been looking for a pitcher who can give us multiple innings, and last season Mota showed he could do that, pitching 2.0 innings 13 times."

nothing says quality pitcher than the fact that he can pitch multiple innings like most middle relievers. the real question is with the brewers already having capuano and turnbow, why are they acquiring mota? do they really expect prince fielder to win them all their games this season?
