As for Matthews, it's more likely that they're concerned with the fact that he's not a very good baseball player and they gave him a big-ass contract on the basis of a career year instead of his actual ability. Of course, they probably would've been better off figuring out a year ago....
Fixed. The Twins would have made more sense (other than their lack of money).
Agreed about Matthews, but since they're on the hook with that contract for four more years and have no chance in hell of trading him, I figured they'd worry about other positions.
Allegedly, he's being moved to a corner, which will make him even more useless. However, this also allows them to keep Vlad at DH permanently, which is probably necessary at this stage.
Thing is, Mathews is a fourth outfielder. If Scoscia is smart, he'll be the best-paid bench player in the AL. It's not like they can trade him, and he'll be the worst-hitting corner outfielder in the game.....
