Blah. Feeling sick overall. Stuffy as hell, and got about two hours of sleep. I'm borderline incoherent, and just want to crawl under my desk and nap. Heroes had better be really fucking engaging tonight. I fully expect everything I type to be incoherent and full of typos (basically Dave Sim's blog without the paranoia and misogyny). Apologies ahead of time.

Anyway, links that piled up over the weekend. I'm honestly too stuffed up to remember where I found most of these:

1. The home-made Ghostbusters trailer (a promo for Michel Gondry's Be Kind, Rewind) with Jack Black and Mos Def is fucking brilliant.

2. Wow! A Happy Tree Friends episode in which Cuddles doesn't die! Between this and last week's episode of [hit TV show title's name redacted], it's a banner week for breaking new ground.

3. Elizabeth Moon on Rejection (I think I've linked to this one before, but it's worth re-reading).

4. The cold hard facts about being a screenwriter, from an economic standpoint.

5. An interesting analysis of why there was nothing wrong with the way Grendel's mother is portrayed in the current Beowulf movie. At this point, warnings from Hal Duncan and kalaity taken into account, I'm still curious enough to want to see it. Even the worst Neil Gaiman stuff* is usually worth a glance.

6. France is basically bending over and letting the record labels have their way with French ISPs. I'm sure that the RIAA "lawyers**" are salivating at the thought of getting this bill passed.

7. Joss Whedon schools the New York Times.

8. Two awesome comics: Cectic on Creationists, and XKCD on my work process.

9. Speaking of comics, this weekend saw a famous comic character outed in The Strip Formerly Known as, Well, "Outland."

10. Finally, check out the Gotham City Rail system, courtesy of yet another stealth advertising site for The Dark Knight.

*1602.

**Lawyers are required, in theory, to maintain certain ethical standards, and all reports about the RIAA's practices imply that these folks are hardly worthy of that title.

Thanks for posting the Joss link - as always he's witty, erudite, and dead-on-balls accurate. I didn't see the Times article, but I realized last night that I truly no longer get my news from mainstream media, because I haven't seen anything but supportive news and articles on the strike. The news off the 'net has been overwhelmingly in favor of the WGA. I'll have to go track down some of the mainstream reporting because I can't imagine what angle could be taken AGAINST the strike.

So what's the anti-strike angle? How are they arguing that writers don't deserve a piece of the pie for new media, and that webcast shows are truly just "promos" even though they contain advertising?

i do think that the whole concept of 'be kind, rewind' is just amazing and can't wait to see it.
'beowulf' was absolutely dreadful.
(and not simply because the source material was mostly ignore. but because it was just a bad movie. kiernan's novelisation, however, wasn't bad. funny how that works.)

''beowulf' was absolutely dreadful.'

Just curious, did you see it in 3D or 2D?

It's a dull movie either way, but at least the 3D is nice eye candy.

Oh jeez, you didn't even get the dubious benefit of the technological raison d'etre of the thing.

I actually saw the first half in 3D, then the theatre was evacuated. I saw the rest of it in 2D. What I saw in 3D was really nicely done. What I saw in 2D put me to sleep.

i would recommend tim lebbon's adaptation of '30 days of night,' as well.

That's completely unfair.

You forgot the religious lectures.

Is there a particular reason that Breathed is drawing himself looking like Sean Connery, or do I just need coffee this morning?

Thankee' for the Beowulf link. It made good reading even if I don't go see it.
