Extreme, having heard the great yearning across America, is reforming.

Rejoice!

(Seriously, I actually liked "III SIdes to Every Story." But I'm not sure I feel any pressing need to hear new material from them. It's not like they're Night Ranger or Loverboy.)

It's about time. =)

And you're right, they're not like Night Ranger or Loverboy. They're better!

Disclaimer: I've seen Extreme live countless times, hung out in their practice space, stole the bass player's girlfriend and shared in the relief once she was gone, and so on. I also met one of Night Ranger's guitarists, although I forget what his name was...

Ted Nugent as Yoko. Now that is an image...

Where does Tommy Shaw stand in that relationship? =)

"Better" maybe, but, yeah... equating the Motor City Madman with Yoko Ono is priceless.

Brad Gillis. That was one of Night Ranger's guitarists, but not one I ran into1. Was Jeff Watson the other? Did a lot of two handed tapping. I could pick him out of a Police lineup, or maybe out of a blind listening test, but I can't remember his name...

1: Now that I say that, I might have run into Brad as well. Have to check for the collection of signatures from that weekend. I know Brad isn't the one I sat around talking to and listening to, though.

Alan Fitzgerald - no clue. Drums or keys, by process of elimination. And I can't remember if they had a dedicated keys guy or not.

Brad Gillis did some neat stuff with the tremelo bar - had this one tape of him doing a Ferrari imitation, and damned if he didn't get the sound right for each and every gear...

Always had the impression that it was Brad's band, although Jack was the face (and literally) the voice of it.

I think DC flip-flopped back on their Armaggedon 2001 mess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armageddon_2001#Response_and_last-minute_changes) and had him become Monarch.

I liked their first album, the one with the song on the Bill and Ted soundtrack. After that I kind of lost interest.

That's a good one.

Kid Ego is a great tune - jammed a few times with the guy they wrote it about.

The song lyrics on most tunes are cliches mixed with nursery rhymes blended with more cliches - but that's the charm of them.

Mutha (Don't Want to go to School Today) was the biggest track off the album, and for a few years before the album came out.

Huh. I remember VH1 trying to get them back together on Bands Reunited (good show, that), but failing because Nino Bettencourt (after literally every other band member said, "I'm in, but you won't get Nino") not only refused to rejoin the band, but wouldn't even let them point a camera at him to ask him why.

And if I may commit a bit of sacrilege here, I think Gary Charone was not a bad choice for Sammy Hagar's replacement in Van Halen.

I think Gary, a bit earlier in his career, would have been the perfect replacement for Roth. A little bit in III Sides, and moreso in Punchline, he matured into a deeper, darker style that doesn't blend so well with Van Halen's party line. I think that's why it didn't work out for Gary or VH.

Heh. Missed this the first time around.

Nuno, not Nino.

That's pretty much the answers I got last time I ran into them (which wasn't long after the original split...)
