Yet another Amazon Mega-DVD Sale
Nov. 28th, 2007 09:04 amAmazon's latest is on DVD Box Sets, with prices from 35-60% off about 400 different sets from assorted categories:
- The 172 TV options include Due South, Degrassi: TNG, The Prisoner, Nero Wolfe, Robin of Sherwood, Ray Bradbury Theater, Dangermouse, and pro wrestling.
- The Art House/International section includes I, Claudius, Upstairs Downstairs, the Once Upon a Time in China set, and a Godzilla seven-pack.
- Anime includes Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Bubblegum Crisis, GTO, and Dragonball Z.
- Action/Adventure includes the Alien Quadrilogy (43% off, in case you missed the 60% off one from Black Friday), X-Men trilogy, and (because you demanded it) the Hulk Hogan Thunder in Paradise collection.
- Comedy includes Ghostbusters, Benny Hill, Abbot and Costello, Carry On, and the Chaplin Short Classics Collection.
- Documentary includes Meercat Manor, Engineering an Empire, The Warner Herzog Collection, a bunch of other good History Channel sets, Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back, and (because you demanded this, as well) Born to Controversy: The Roddy Piper Story.
- Horror includes two Bava sets (yay!), assorted seasons of The Dead Zone, The Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition, and some other nice collections.
- Kids and Family includes Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Electric Company, Sesame Street, and TMNT.
- Mystery includes Poirot, Inspector Lynley, Mary Higgins Clark, Jericho of Scotland Yard, the Stephen Sondheim Musical Collection, and the Masterpiece Theatre Bronte Collection. I don't think these last really qualify as mysteries (now if the Sondheim set included The Last of Sheila, that'd be another story).
- The Musicals section does not include Sondheim, but it does include a collection of Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection, and assorted box sets mixing decent movie musicals (Hair, West Side Story) with good shows that were ruined for the screen (A Chorus Line, Guys and Dolls).
- Westerns includes the two-disc edition of Silverado, the four-disc Hopalong Cassidy, Lonesome Dove, and box sets focusing on John Wayne, Gene Autry, and Zane Grey.
- To top it off, there's a "Complete Collections" section, with 98 sets like the Infernal Affairs Trilogy, the WC Fields and Ray Harryhausen box sets, the Universal Marx Brothers set (the one that features the films with all the brothers), The Muppet Movie Three-pack, the Shirley Temple Collection, the Jean Renoir Criterion Collection set, The Charlie Chaplin 8-DVD pack, and others.
Some items not listed in the sale (as far as I can tell) but worth highlighting: The Complete Black Adder for $59.99 (40% off), and the first two series of Black Books for $27.49 (45% off). Both belong in every collection (alas, the third series of Black Books, as well as the complete set with all three series, cannot be found at a huge discount yet). You can also get the Simpsons Movie for $15.99 (47% off), the new Futurama movie for $17.99 (40% off), and either season of Extras for $10.99 each
