Elayna's school was neither cancelled nor delayed this morning (in spite of the fact that Newton's on two-hour delay, and Waltham is closed). *grumble* The streets really are not in good enough shape for walking or driving yet.

Yeah, my kids' school (and, for that matter, the public schools in the same town) are open with no delays today. The only hard part was excavating my car, really.

Awww, you only got about 10". Back when I was in school, that used to be normal. You get a foot or more and they might cancel.

And they never had delays.

Or busses.

Two miles, up hill both ways.

(at least in junior high - it was only Common Street for elementary & high school =)

I know, it's a curse of these modern times.

They give in too easily. =)

(Actually, from what I read in the news today, it looks like a lot of them are dropping the ball on snow removal; still, much better than they do down here in the tropics... Bethlehem PA doesn't clear their streets until they get packed with ice, then they can't clear them, and the on-street parking prevents any plowing from being useful... )

Andy's school was delayed a half hour, even though they called school for the day yesterday before the first flake had fallen. Since my road is a sheet of ice, I kept him home. It would have taken at least 45 minutes to get him there this morning and an hour for me (the old lady driver with the baby in the car with me) to go get him.

I bet you're missing the Southern response of "oh my god they predicted snow, I know there aren't any clouds but shut down the city!" eh? eh? ;)

Our school corp generally doesn't close unless the temperatures & wind chill are so bad that you get frostbite on exposed flesh in... what, 20, maybe 30 minutes or less? That's the only reason we've closed in quite some time. Snow and ice doesn't phase.

Tends to piss off the kids when the neighboring districts are delayed or closed though. We don't have delayed starts: it's either full on, or not.
