1. Sarah Beth Durst (whose Into the Wild was a damned fine YA debut this year) retells an abridged version of Dickens's The Magic Fishbone. With commentary and pictures.

2. The Organization for Transformative Works.

3. [livejournal.com profile] slipjig comes up with a great list of fifty Anglo-Celtic songs.

4. Tom Verducci has the best wrap-up of the Mitchell Report I've seen so far.

5. Aww. The poor AD at Arkanas is upset that he and Petrino are being portrayed as less than ethical. I'm sure that he never directly talked to Petrino until after the resignation. I'm also sure that both Long and Petrino knew that Petrino would end up at Arkansas by Monday. Anyone who believes otherwise might be interested in this bridge I've got for sale in Brooklyn.

6. Cheers to Kylie Minogue for bringing a touch of PVC-clad class to the Nobel Awards Concert (also, "US Country Singer Melissa Etheridge?" WTF?). Quick aside for anyone reading this in the U.K. or Australia: Kylie hasn't been close to relevant Stateside (outside the club scene) since "Locomotion."

7. Why women don't topple over when they're pregnant.

8. The trailer for My Name is Bruce (the Bruce Campbell movie, of course) is online! That's not to be confused with the classic Johnny Yune movie, They Call Me Bruce?, of course. Bonuses: A camcorded version of the Dark Knight trailer and a full teaser trailer for Season 4 of Lost.

9. Gamasutra picks the Five Most Overlooked Games of 2007. Three of the five games are for systems I own, and I'd still never heard of them.

10. Finally, there's going to be a downloading (and hopefully cross-platform) Princess Bride Game!

Have you read Caitlin R. Kiernan's lengthy entry about the Organization for Transformative Works? She's dubious about the group; she has complicated feelings about fanfic as a whole, specifically people who treat it as an end-all-be-all when she figures it should be treated as training for creating something original. There's lots more at the link.

Kylie had a song in 2001 that was really quite good.

Between those Old Spice commercials and now this, MAN I love Bruce Campbell...

And oh man do I miss The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. Wish they'd start re-running that.

On #10, the listed system requirements: "Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Linux (2.6 kernel, glibc 2.4)". (In other news, Safari 3 (10.4.11/10.5+) lets you drag tabs off the tab bar to turn them into new windows. Useful when you can't copy & paste from annoying Flash sites.)

I need to set a Season Pass to grab those eps. It's the sort of show I'd like to have sitting on my TiVo when I just feel like watching something fun and cheering - it's rare that I actually pull out DVDs of TV shows that I own. For some reason I find more enjoyable the "ooh look I have an ep of XXX to watch!" as a nice little surprise.

Funny you mention X-Files - I was such the fanatic when it was on, and now my TiVo keeps grabbing the reruns, but I haven't found myself interested in re-immersing. Maybe when the next movie actually has an opening date, I'll start watching again...

Apparently, you could get it out of your head. (Or perhaps, you couldn't get it into your head.)

Drag straight down; the tab will turn into a translucent page thumbnail. When you drop it, it expands into a regular-sized window.

It was very aptly named.

Don't know about the US, but Kylie always seems to be doing well in Canada. I'm seeing her videos all the time, and hearing her on the radio when I listen to top40.
