We made it to Tampa yesterday with a mostly-uneventful flight (if you exclude the fact that Airtran took an hour to get any bags out to their sole baggage claim, because they only have one baggage handler, and he was busy smoking weed). Hotel -- the Embassy Suites Westshore -- kicks ass. Cheap suites, great amenities (free cocktails, even), free (but wired) internet, free printing from the room (and we printed over a hundred pages), and a free airport shuttle. Yeah, that'll work. Dinner with [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar was full of awesome, as well.

We're off to Deland today via Amtrak, but a few links so I can close some tabs:

1. My wife sold a poem! Woohoo!

2. [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar took us to the most amazing chocolate store ever. Dozens of free samples, an amazing selection, and tons of gourmet hot chocolates.

3. Yet another Dune Adaptation.

4. Because you demanded it: American Mall: The Musical. On MTV, of course (the initials stand for Mall TeleVision, I believe).

5. Mike Hampton and John Schuerholz negotiating (old but still funny).

6. I once again failed to make the Boston Phoenix's Least Sexy list! Woohoo!

7. Reminder: You can visit my mini city and make it less mini.

8. The first footage from next year's Coraline movie! Warning -- the link on that page will take you to a 52MB .mov file. If you're on, say, a slow hotel internet connection, it'll take a while.

9. IM IN UR MANGER KILLING UR SAVIOR.

10. Why (some) photographers hate the Creative Commons. (Note: not my opinion; I'm not a photographer, and I like the CC in general. But worth reading.)

Oddly, another person on my f-list had a similar problem. Flying from Florida to somewhere further north with snow for the holidays. Don't know if his delayed luggage was due to doped up baggage handler though...

I heart the CC, for the most part, but as a photographer I NEVER use it... All of my photographs are fully protected because people love to muck around with photos way too much. Hehehe

I blame the rightwing buisnesspocket judges who've narrowed "fair use" for the problems

but I also think most people are way to greedy, a lot of getting a good photo is an accident of time and location. And with a few rare exceptions even if someone bought your CC'd pic they wouldn't pay much for it.

1. You are informed enough to make the correct license choice;

This is where my eyes crossed and I decided to stop reading. You're supposed to make your strongest point your first point, and his strongest point is "despite choosing to use a Creative Commons license in the first place, you're not brainy enough to figure out that you should select one of the licenses that says "Noncommercial" if you don't want big fatcat corporations using your photo for free"? He may have some points that hold up better on examination than that but I'm not patient enough to try to sift them out.
