[livejournal.com profile] shadesong and I just caught Skidoo on our Tivo.

It is now #1 with a bullet on my list of movies that need to be released on DVD.

This movie has (in no particular order):

A remote control with one button that controls ninety-six different things. Including doors, intercoms, a bed hidden beneath a desk, and music.

Groucho Marx as God.

Carol Channing getting nearly naked.

A huge hot air balloon knitted together in the span of a few hours from dozens of potato sacks.

Carol Channing dancing spastically (I need an LJ icon of her dance in Frankie Avalon's apartment)

Closing credits sung in their entirety.

A lot of hippies.

No, really. A lot of hippies.

Jackie Gleason on an acid trip.

An entire prison population (including guards, warden, and a visiting senator) on an acid break.

The Green Bay Packers. Naked.

Mickey Rooney.

Richard Kiel as a prison guard trustee.

Appearances by Michael Constantine, John Philip Law, Frank Gorshin, Peter Lawford, Burgess Meredith, George Raft, Cesar Romero, and Slim Pickens.

Music by Harry Nilsson

And this was all directed by Otto Preminger.

Harry Nilsson also sang the closing credits too...

Agreed on needed DVD release, but the odd of the Preminger estate allowing that are prob about the same as the RIAA announcing a blanket amnesty for downloaders...then again I also once figured that Pretty Baby with naked 12 year old Brooke Shields would never see DVD release so who knows...

Richard Kiel as a prison guard.

I think he was actually a trustee, since he's wearing prison stripes a couple of times. These things are important!

but wouldn't the preminger estate have to sign off on a broadcast of the film?

It's out there as a bootleg DVD. Super Happy Fun and 5 Minutes to Live have it.

It would be awesome to see Frank Gorshin, Cesar Romero, and Burgess Meredith in a movie together where they weren't playing their Batman characters. Burgess Meredith is George in one of my favourite versions of Of Mice & Men. He's really good.

Oooooh... I'd set it to record based on your mention last week. Now I'm really, really glad I did. And I think I know what I'm going to watch tonight when I get home.
