Fred Phelps, whose talent as a hate-monging bigot who wouldn't know what Christianity was if his soul depended on it is only exceeded by his talent as a goat fellator, is planning on picketing Heath Ledger's funeral. Because the guy played a gay man on the big screen, and that hurt poor Freddy's feelings.

Christians should read their own manual. In Matthew 6, it talks about these type of things: 1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."

I'm not Christian, but I think most Christians are genuinely good people, trying to live according to Jesus' teachings. Which, IIRC, are mostly about being nice to everyone and trying to help the less fortunate. I don't remember the parts of the New Testament that said it was okay to hate. The one question I have for him is however, "what exactly are you protesting when you go to the funeral of a person you dislike?"

Like should Heath Ledger not be permitted to die because he played a gay cowboy? Are you picketing the ability of such a person to be buried or cremeated depending? Picketing having a memorial?

It just makes no sense, its not like Heath Ledger is going to make another movie you don't agree with unless you find the Joker particularly objectionable. I mean it just makes NO sense. Does it? Am I missing the sense?

Phelps is the leader of a cult who's religion mainly consists of protesting funerals and getting publisity doing so. The POINT of protesting the funeral is to get attention. (The point of protesting the funeral of a soldier is because God is pissed at America and is really really happy whenever an American dies. And since you can't protest EVERY funeral, well, you get the idea.)
