The man behind Lindt's expansion into the US has passed away. It's easy to dismiss Lindt in light of other companies like Vosges, but they really raised the bar for chocolate in this country.

Also, for anyone who has ignored Lindt for years, they've done some amazing stuff recently, coming out with bars filled with things like creme brulée (even with bits of burnt sugar!) and pears that are delectable.

One of the things that made me sad about leaving my old job was knowing I would no longer see one of my favorite customers, a Lindt distributor. When I was pregnant with Savannah, he brought me a huge box of white chocolate truffles, which were heavenly. (And pretty darn fresh, since he had access to some of the newly produced products.)

I went to a Lindt retail store in Philly recently. They had some stuff there that made me weep tears of joy. Can't get it on their website :( But it says there are retail stores in Perimeter Mall and Mall of Georgia, so next time I hit the ATL I've got some shopping to do.

I wish Lindt hadn't changed its formulation away from butter to fractionated oils and skim milk. They have raised the chocolate discourse in the US, though, and I respect that.
