Holy shit! We pulled it off without giving up Pelfrey or F-Mart!

Mind you, I'm still devastated at the idea of losing Gomez, who will make Twins fans forget about Hunter within about a year, and Mulvey and Humber both have tons of potential. But keeping our best outfield prospect and not giving up Mulvey, Church, or any of the other names thrown out there is pretty damned good.

(And yes, I know this depends on the contract extension working out.)

You know, I am just happy that the Yankees held back. With all the change happening there, I did not want to see them start trading off their top young players and prospects again just to gain yet another superstar.

Yes indeed -- I hope it works out for both clubs! To your point from way-back-when: The Viola trade worked out great for the Twins, and in fact lots of other veteran-for-prospects trades have done so for them...but I still think that with young prospects it's a risk. For what it's worth, a Twins blogger has a negative first reaction (http://twinsgeek.blogspot.com/2008/01/nonsensical-trade-points-to-santana.html).

Well, if the Red Sox weren't going to get him, I'm glad you guys took Santana out of our league.

I'm just glad someone has something nice to say about Pelfrey, who is auditioning for Imaginary Baseball Boyfriend 08 in case John Maine and I break up.

Dude, I wouldn't sweat losing Mulvey. He's got a good arm, but I don't know if he has what it takes to survive in the bigs.

I actually coached against him when he was pitching for Bishop Ahr and he was good, but our boys ripped him up pretty well. Plus he was kind of a JO. ;)

as i told my mets fan roommate

same goes for you.

i'm sure youre a nice person, and you seem really cool. that being said, every time santana beats the cubs i will personally wish death upon you for a period of 24 hours after the game.

in all sersiousness though, thank goodness you got him and not like the brewers or the red sox. now all you gotta do is get him to bean rollins in the head, and life will be good again.
