2. Because you demanded it: 4 Fast 4 Furious: . Okay, that's probably not the title they'll use. But they somehow managed to get Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and VIn Diesel back on board, in spite of how far their careers have come since the first movie. ETA: Vulture (and other blogs as well, in all likelihood) have come up with the same joke about the title, but predictable as it is, it's still too fun a joke to pass up.

3. This comparison of Simpsons moments and movie/TV moments is nifty, although miss a bunch (like the wonderful T-2 moments the show's done).

4. Wired has a great interview with Jeff and Ann VanderMeer that also features a link to a free download of Jeff's book The Situation.

5. You can use your popcorn popper as a coffee roaster! Or you can just buy pre-roasted coffee, like I do.

5. You can use your popcorn popper as a coffee roaster!

Take care if you try this:

1. Only use an air popper. Anything else is not appropriate


2. That the vents in the heat chamber are on the WALLS and not on the floor - otherwise the parchment (the chaff from the green beans) will fall down into (and onto) the heat element. Burned coffee is bad enough, burning coffee roasters is worse.


3. Coffee has a nonlinear profile to "roastedness", in that it won't do much for quite a while and then it burns to charcoal in an instant. Constant vigilance (and a good digital thermometer) is essential.


4. Coffee won't stop roasting when you turn off the heat: the reaction is partially chemical and continues to generate it's OWN heat after the switch is turned off. This is why I added a switch between the heating element and the rest of the unit: I can run mine "fan only" for a while to cool the beans swiftly. Commercial roasters "quench" the roast with about eight gallons of water for each 50lb batch.


5. Freshly roasted coffee needs to age 4-12 hours prior to being ground and brewed.

All true, I tried that a few times several years ago. You have to watch it closely, and then dump it out when it's done (unlike popcorn, which pops out of the air popper).

The Watchmen costumes are all right, but it seems Hollywood's still using Batman Forever as a model.


Also, I hope they call it "2 Fast 2 Furious 2: Six".
