Swinton admits to hating Harry Potter because of the way it fetishizes British boarding schools.

Which, I suppose, means she'd be willing to do a Dead Boy Detectives movie, at least.

Interesting. I suppose if I had any experience at British Boarding Schools I would hate them too. Most people coming out of the boarding schools do tend to despise them. I'm reading Robert Graves' Goodbye to All That and I'm reading it for the WWI material but he spends about 70 pages talking about his boarding school.

Apparently homosexuality was not only accepted but more or less mandatory - in a celibate manner so he claims.

I like Harry Potter, but yup, I agree it makes boarding school seem more appealing (even with all the death and so on) than it really is.

(it was amazing how many girls at my boarding school had read Enid Blyton growing up and started off blithely assumed it would be like the boarding schools in her novels...)
